ABOUT COOKIES
What are cookies and what are they used for?
Cookies are small files configured as tools for obtaining information to:
1) improve browsing.
2) improve the user experience.
3) collect statistics on service use, user behavior and/or page visits.
4) analyze user activity.
5) show personalized advertising.
6) profile the user.
7) capture intrusive data, such as your address, what you buy, how you pay, where you send your purchases, your passwords, telephone numbers, what you search for online, etc.
Cookies are stored on the user’s device and often save website settings, such as the language used, the connection hardware, the operating system and, in some cases, even the location. Installed cookies may obtain a large amount of information about users, even to the point of identifying a person together with their activity on the website, email reading, use of applications, etc.
As soon as a cookie can identify a person, the data obtained is considered personal data. Not all cookies are used for the purpose of identifying users, but a large proportion of them are. Cookies that identify users and/or can profile them are the most used for commercial and advertising purposes by website owners or their associated third parties.
Operational cookies are generated either on each visit or on the first visit to our website. For this purpose, a cookie is generated and stored in your browser. On subsequent visits, the server may request the information stored on your computer to establish and adapt the website to your preferences or to the equipment and terminals with which you connect, so that the visit is as personalized as possible.
Types of cookies
Cookies may be classified in different ways.
If we focus on the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, we can distinguish between own cookies and third-party cookies.
Own cookies are those sent to the user’s terminal equipment from equipment or a domain managed by the publisher itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided. Third-party cookies, on the other hand, are those sent to the user’s terminal equipment from equipment or a domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies. Where cookies are served from equipment or a domain managed by the publisher itself, but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they cannot be considered own cookies if the third party uses them for its own purposes, such as improving the services it provides or providing advertising services on behalf of other entities.
If we focus on the purpose, we distinguish between:
a) Technical cookies:
These are cookies that allow the user to browse a website, platform or application and to use the different options or services available on it, including those used by the publisher to allow the management and operation of the website and to enable its functions and services. For example, they may be used to control data traffic and communication, identify the session, access restricted-access areas, remember the elements that make up an order, carry out the purchase process for an order, manage payment, control fraud linked to service security, process a request to register for or participate in an event, count visits for the purposes of billing licenses for the software used by the service (website, platform or application), use security elements during browsing, store content for the broadcasting of videos or sound, enable dynamic content (for example, loading animation for text or an image), or share content through social networks.
This category also includes, due to their technical nature, cookies that allow the most efficient possible management of advertising spaces which, as an element of the design or layout of the service offered to the user, the publisher has included on a website, application or platform based on criteria such as the edited content, without collecting information from users for other purposes, such as personalizing that advertising content or other content.
b) Preference or personalization cookies:
These are cookies that allow information to be remembered so that the user accesses the service with certain characteristics that may differentiate their experience from that of other users, such as the language, the number of results to be displayed when the user performs a search, the appearance or content of the service according to the type of browser through which the user accesses the service or the region from which the user accesses the service, etc.
c) Statistical, analytics or measurement cookies:
These are cookies that allow their holder or owner to monitor and analyze the behavior of users of the websites to which they are linked, including the quantification of advertising impacts. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms, to introduce improvements based on the analysis of usage data made by users of the service.
With regard to the processing of data collected through analytics cookies, these cookies require informed consent for their use, although they are unlikely to pose a risk to users’ privacy provided that they are first-party cookies, process aggregated data for strictly statistical purposes, information is provided about their use and users are given the possibility to object to their use.
d) Behavioral advertising cookies:
These are cookies that store information about user behavior obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows a specific profile to be developed in order to display advertising based on that profile.
Finally, focusing on the period for which cookies remain stored in the user’s browser, we distinguish between session cookies and persistent cookies.
a) Session cookies:
These are cookies designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are usually used to store information that only needs to be kept for the provision of the service requested by the user on a single occasion, such as a list of purchased products, and they disappear when the session ends.
b) Persistent cookies:
These are cookies in which the data remains stored on the terminal and may be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie controller, which may range from a few minutes to several years.
We recommend deleting cookies from your device.
Our legal obligations regarding cookie policies
As the owner of a website and in accordance with the requirements of transparency and fairness towards the user, we inform you in a clear, simple, complete and continuous manner so that you have a real and effective choice regarding the use of your data and the operation of cookies on our website; the information stored on your devices; the reading, processing and retrieval of your data; the purposes of data processing; the possibility of modifying and withdrawing consent; and the possibility of deleting cookies and stored data.
